Old Fashioned Revival Hour Quartet -- Featuring Art Jaissle, Bass
The message inside the CD cover reads... Art Joined the Old Fashioned Revival Hour Quartet in 1937 and continued as a member of the group until it disbanded in 1980. The Quartet had its origin in 1933 when it was first organized as the Goose Creek Quartet and, with its pianist Rudy Atwood, provided the music for the Country Church Of Hollywood radio broadcast. In 1937, the Quartet became an integral element of evangelist Dr. Charles E. Fuller's Old Fashioned Revival Hour radio broadcast, originating from the studios of radio station KHJ in Los Angeles, California, where it was heard live locally each Sunday afternoon. The programs were also recorded for syndication and were heard worldwide a week or more after their original air dates. In 1944, the broadcast moved to the 5,000 seat Long Beach Municipal Auditorium. After their last broadcast performance on January 12, 1958, the Quartet continued to sing together in concerts and during special events. From 1956 to 1977, Art was employed at Gospel Light Publications, a well-known provider of a Sunday School curriculum, while remaining active with the Quartet and continuing his solo performances. During his musical career, Art sang as a bass soloist in many of the Los Angeles area churches including Vermont Avenue Presbyterian, The Church of the Open Door, La Crescenta Baptist, La Canada Presbyterian, and Arcadia Presbyterian. He also performed with the Baptist Laymen Singers, The Roger Wagner Chorale, The James King Chorale, and the Kiwanis Men's Chorus of Glendale, CA. While attending Glendale Presbyterian Church, where he and his family became members in 1954, Art served as an elder, sang in the choir, and acted as youth choir director. For many years, he enjoyed a continuing role as Zacharias in the sacred Christmas cantata, "The Bells Of Bethlehem", performed each year at Angelus Temple. Art, together with his wife, Genevieve, also gave many sacred and classical concerts throughout Southern California. While most selections on this CD were obtained from the original transcriptions of the live radio broadcasts, the song "The Mighty Redwoods" comes to us from a rare 78 RPM record. "The Mighty Redwoods" was a poem written by one of the ministers of the Country Church Of Hollywood while he was visiting the Redwood National Park. Genevieve composed and arranged the music for it, and also provides the piano accompaniment for this solo. This compilation of songs is a tribute to highlight the astounding talent and rich bass voice which contributed so greatly to the inspiring sound of the Old Fashioned Revival Hour Quartet, Thank you Art Jaissle.
