The message inside the CD cover reads...
The Old-Fashioned Revival Hour Quartet had its origin in 1933 when it was first organized as the Goose Creek Quartet, and served, with its pianist Rudy Atwood, as the official quartet for the Country Church of Hollywood radio broadcast. The broadcast format was a radio drama set in the mythical town of Goose Creek. Dr. William and Virginia Hogg founded this ministry and played roles of a country parson and his wife, Josiah and Sarah Hopkins. "Meetin' Time" was highlighted with hymns and a message by the parson. The Quartet provided the music for the broadcast, and each member played a character in the dramatizations.

Another pioneer in Christian Radio was Dr Charles E Fuller who began his famous Old Fashioned Revival Hour broadcast in 1937. Having heard the Goose Creek Quartet on the Country Church of Hollywood radio broadcast, Dr Fuller felt this Quartet would enhance his new radio ministry, and so the Quartet joined his broadcast in 1937. The Quartet also continued as the Goose Creek Quartet and remained with the Country Church until 1956. It soon gained a world-wide reputation for its excellent music, and was considered by many to be the finest gospel quartet of its day.

The Old Fashioned Revival Hour originated from the studios of radio station KHJ in los Angeles, California, where it was heard live locally each Sunday afternoon. The programs were recorded for syndication and could be heard worldwide a week or more after their original air dates. Many of these original 16" transcriptions have survived, providing us the opportunity to hear the Quartet's performances again today. In 1944, the broadcast moved to the 5,000 seat Long Beach Municipal Auditorium. The Quartet remained with Dr Fuller through the last broadcast from the Auditorium on January 12, 1958, after which the broadcast moved to a local recording studio until it ended on January 18, 1970. The Quartet continued to sing and produce record albums until 1980.

The Quartet's pianist, Rudy Atwood, became famous in his own right. His distinctive piano arrangements became the most imitated among church pianists anywhere, and still remain very popular today. Many people tuned in to the Old Fashioned Revival Hour each week just to hear Rudy's improvisations and piano artistry.

Over the years, the Quartet attracted the talent of many famous singers, including Thurl Ravenscroft (later known as "Tony the Tiger"), Bill Days, John Knox, Art Laissle, Bob Gordon, Bill MacDougal, Herman Hosier, Al Harlan, Jack Coleman, Dick Brown, John Lundburg, and Ken Brown.

Using modern computer technology, the original broadcast transcriptions have been digitally re-mastered to sound just like they were recorded today. This CD is one of eight now available in the SILVER COLLECTION, which contains more than 175 of the Quartet's best loved numbers performed live on the 1948 and 1949 radio broadcasts.
