Comments From The Arranger, Mike Zachary
As a musician, I believe it is important for choir members to be skilful. Better musicians produce better sound, and the Bible clearly directs us to be excellent (Psalm 33:3, I Chronicles 15:22, Ecclesiastes 9:10, Malachi 1:8). As a Christian musician, however, I believe that spiritual preparation of each choir member is even more important than his musicianship. Without tender hearts, we "become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal" (I Corinthians 13:1). It is my prayer that these brief comments will make it easier for each member of the choir to remember the spiritual responsibility that Christian choral singing involves.

I've Never been Sorry
Thus Saith the Lord, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? Jeremiah 2:5

The obvious answer that every believer should give to such a question is, "Lord, You have never failed us, even when we have failed You." We may have experienced both mountains and valleys from the day we were saved till now, but we never regret the moment we received God's gracious gift of eternal life. As the songwriter said, "I've never been sorry that I trusted His blessed, holy name.

A Song That Angels Cannot Sing
"What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels..." (Psalm 8:4,5)

Angels, the messengers of God, have abilities that we do not have. On the other hand, humans can know the joy of salvation, something angels cannot personally experience. Let us always be mindful of the grace we enjoy "through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24)

Tears Will Never Stain The Streets Of That City
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:4)

It is comforting to know that God understands our sorrows and disappointments; but it is even more blessed to have comfort of knowing that our tears will be wiped away by God Himself when we reach the bright shores of heaven.

I Just Began To Live ("New Song" Medley)
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Corinthians 5:17)

"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord" (Psalm 40:3)

:I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

Ten Thousand Years
"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." (II Peter 3:8)

Though it is not possible for us to comprehend, we will soon leave this earth to live in a place where there is no time. We sometimes measure time by noting day and night, nut "there shall be no night there" (Revelati0on 21:25). We may measure time by noting how often the moon orbits the earth or the earth orbits the sun, but heaven has "no need of the sun, neither the moon, to shine on it: for the glory of God did lighten it" (Revelation 21:23). In heaven, we will understand eternity--a life not limited by time.

As The Deer
"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." (Psalm 42:1)

This arrangement of "As The Deer" grew out of a special season in my life when I needed the Lord to provide for our family in a special way, and hope always seemed just our of reach. During these days, our family often gathered around the piano and sang, "As The Deer". It helped to keep my heart tender, and it made me want to keep trusting and serving our Lord.

He Called Me Out
"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out or the miry clay, and set me feet upon a rock, and established my goings." (Psalm 40:1)

"For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me...(Isaiah 45:4-5)

Heavenly Love
"O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them." (John 17:25- 26)

In His goodness, God has let us know the love of a mother, a father, a husband, a wife. We have known the love of our children, and of our friends. In spite of all this, we often come to the place where we realize that only God can meet our deepest need. He is truly the Friend that "Sticketh closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24) and the Lover of our souls.

The Value Of One
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth." (Luke 15:10)

If you wish to know the value our Lord places on one soul, see our Savior hanging on Calvary's cruel tree. God "spared not his own Son" (Romans 8:32) because of His great love for us. As thankful Christians, we must remember the Great Commission: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..." (Matthew 28:19,20)

We Must Reach Them While We Can
"Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment." (Luke 16:27-28)

When I was asked to write a song about reaching the lost for Christ, I was at one of the busiest times of my life. Working full time as a Bible college professor, teaching over forty piano students each week as a second job, and attending graduate school with a full time load, I had precious little time. Just before going to bed that night, I prayed, "Lord, I know how to write a song; but I don't know how to write a song that will stir the hearts of people. Please help me."

About 15 minutes later, I was awakened, clearly thinking " 'Neath facades of mirth and glee, God has set eternity in the soul of sin-sick man." Since "every good gift and every perfect gift from above" (James 1:17), I have always thanked the Lord for giving me this song; and I hope it will remind us all of those around us who desperately need Christ.
