Foundation Brass Choir -- Christmas Carillon
Group Picture: Individual member biographies: BRUCE COX (TRUMPET) -- Earned his doctor of Musical Arts Degree in trumpet performance and pedagogy in 1995 from the University of Southern Mississippi after earning a Bachelor's degree from Bob Jones University and a Master's degree from the University of Illinois. Bruce has been a member of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and the Southern Arts Brass Quintet, and currently plays with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the director of the BJU Trumpet Choir and Concert Band and the minister of music at Suber Road Baptist Church in Greer, South Carolina. JESS TURNER (TRUMPET) -- Has been the student of Dr. Bruce Cox of Bob Jones University. Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer of Northwestern University, and Tage Larsen of the Chicago Symphony. Jess graduated from BJU in 2005 with a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance. Has has twice been the South Carolina winner of the Music Teacher's National Association Young Artist Brass Competition, was selected as a performer for the 2004 Northwestern University Trumpet Clinic and in 2005, was named national first prize winner of the MTNA Young Artist Composition contest, sponsored by Warner Bros. Music Publications. This Jess's first recording with the Foundation Brass. HEATHER McNEELY (TRUMPET) -- Received a Master's degree in Musicology from Converse College in 1999 after completing a Bachelor's degree in trumpet performance from Bob Jones University in 1996. While at converse, she was a member of the Converse Faculty Brass Quintet. Currently, in addition to teaching pre-college and undergraduate trumpet lessons, Heather teaches undergraduate and graduate music history courses and advises graduate music majors. Heather is a member of the American Musicological Society. MARK FREDERICK (HORN) -- Received both the Batchelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Bob Jones University. He completed a Master of Music Degree in horn performance at the University of Colorado in 2001. And while in Colorado, he performed in orchestras in the Denver and Boulder areas. Mark currently teaches horn and directs the Bob Jones University Horn Choir. STEPHEN DONEY (HORN) -- Is a student of Mark Frederick at Bob Jones University. He received Batchelor of Science degree in music education in 2003 and a Master of Arts degree in horn performance in 2005. He has been involved in numerous music groups while at BJU and is actively involved in the church music program at Trinity Baptist Church in Gaffney, South Carolina. PAUL JANTZ (TROMBONE) -- Is head of the Brass Department and Assistant to the Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Bob Jones University. He received his Master's Degree in sacred music from BJU. His postgraduate education has included private study with Ron Barron and work with the Summit Brass at the Keystone Brass Institute. Paul, who is also a member of GAMAC Chamber Orchestra, conducts the BJU Trombone Choir and Brass Choir and works with the instrumental music program at Heritage Bible Church in Greer, South Carolina. PAUL OVERLY (TROMBONE) -- Earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance from Florida State University in 1990 after receiving both the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in trombone performance from Bob Jones University. As a graduate student at BJU, he won the state, divisional, and national collegiate brass auditions of the MTNA. He presently teaches trombone and euphonium, directs the BJU Tuba/Euphonium choir, and plays in the GAMAC Chamber Orchestra and Greater Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra. RON FOX (BRASS TROMBONE) -- Is the arranger for this CD. Ron received both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Bob Jones University in Music Education. Ron has been a music teacher and music pastor in Virginia Beach, Denver, North Charleston, and currently in Matthews, North Carolina. Ron is a member of the Outstanding Young Men Of America and Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Ron, and his wife Beth, have had national award winners (AACS National Competition) in choir, band, large vocal ensemble, small vocal ensemble, small instrumental ensemble, piano duet, and hand bells. BETH FOX (PIANO AND ARRANGER) -- Received her Bachelor's degree in music education from Bob Jones University. She is a member of Who's Who Among America's Teachers and is also a National Piano Guild judge. Beth also has been heavily involved with NATS (National Association of Teachers and Singing). She has served as a church pianist and music teacher. She has trained pianists and vocalists who are now ministering around the country as well as having student groups place nationally at the AACS Nation Competition. DAN TURNER (TUBA) -- Received the Bachelor of Science degree from Bob Jones University and both his Mater's and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Illinois. In addition to playing in the GAMAC Chamber Orchestra and BJU groups, Dan conducts the University Symphonic Wind Band, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education history, and holds band workshops and clinics throughout the United States. MATTHEW WHITCOMB (PERCUSSION) -- Earned a Master's Degree in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina in 2005. He holds a Master's degree in Music Education from Bob Jones University. Over the past few years, he has studied as a band director, choir director, opera conductor, and orchestral conductor. In 2005, he was a guest conductor for the University of South Carolina Concert Choir. He is active as a middle school and high school band director. Matt and his wife, Rachelle, have worked on the music staff of the WILDS Christian Camp and are currently serving in the music ministry at Kennerly Road Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
