Alan McGill, Baritone -- He Touched Me + Alan McGill Sings The message inside the CD cover reads... Alan and his wife, Jean, are scheduling regularly in their 60 to 90 minute presentations that are planned to not merely entertain, but to make the Gospel and God's plan pf salvation explicitly clear. Jean accompanies him at the piano on several selections and usually plays a ten minute prelude. Most of the accompaniment, however, is his own record backgrounds on tape; none of which is of the modern contemporary variety, but are from his actual recording sessions in the 1950's and 60's. Some of the songs are traditional, and some are a "contemporary" and uplifting reflection of that era. In addition to his own Gospel programs, in years gone by, he sometimes was guest soloist with well-known evangelists and Bible-teachers such as: Dr. J Vernon McGee, Dr. Oswald J. Smith, Dr. Bob Jones Sr., Dr. Willis E. Garrett, Dr. Ed Nelson, Dr. Ed Nelson, Dr. Percy Crawford, Dr. Donald J. Barnhouse, Dr. T. W. Wilson, Dr. John R. Rice, Dr. J Allen Blair, Dr. Dale Crowley, Dr. Merv Russell, Dr. M. Mr. DeHann, Dr. William Ward Ayer, Dr. Hyman Appleman, etc.. Through the 1950's, Alan was quite active in the Hollywood Christian Group, where he became acquainted with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. As different times, both Alan and Dale served as Vice President of the group. Later in 1954, he married his first wife, Nancy, who became his pianist. They were married for 30 years until she went home to be with the Lord in 1984 due to having has a 25-year bout with multiple sclerosis. eight and one half years later, Alan married Jean who had became a widow in January of 1989. They met in a church where she had been the organist for over 26 years. In January of 1993, they were married. Alan and Jean are now happily serving together as advocates of "Christian music like it used to be." "Therefore, if any man be in
Christ, he is a new creature; He Touched Me
All of these songs were recorded in the 1950's and 1960's, with the exception of four that were recorded in April of 1970 with Alan's longtime friend, Rudy Atwood, accompanying him at the piano. They actually recorded eight songs at that time. Their good friend and excellent music arranger, Paul Mickelson, later added a couple more tracks with organ and voices, etc. He used these with other previously recorded McGill albums on his SUPREME PRODUCTIONS label. They were: "HE TOUCHED ME and "PORTRAIT OF ALAN MCGILL." Four of those songs recorded first with Rudy in April 1970, as mentioned above, are #1-5-7-10 on this CD-510, and on cassette #CA-2405. "PORTRAIT OF ALAN MCGILL." is on CD-204. and cassette #CA-0396. Tim Spencer, former manager/singer with The Sons Of The Pioneers (the most popular Western Singing Group) and an outstanding western song writer, composed song #4, and he was President of the Holly Christian Christian group in which both Roy and Alan were active. As you listen to the lyrics of songs #6 and #9, you might be especially blessed to know that both of the songwriters were blind, yet rejoicing in God's goodness to them. Upon hearing the songs on this album, one is reminded of how satisfying it is to be wonderfully "touched" by our Saviour's hand! Alan McGill Sings In May of 1957, Alan and Roy decided to use two of Roy's compositions on an Alan McGill album recorded on the SACRED RECORDS label (the company to whom Alan was under contract and recorded with from 1949 through 1960). Roy's songs, "Lord Have Mercy On My Soul" and "Read The Bible And Pray", were the featured numbers on the album that also contained additional songs by other composers. Some of those songs were later used on other McGill album releases under different labels. It was decided when preparing this new release of "Alan McGill Sings" (two of Roy's songs) to use original 1957 album jacket and photo of these "two young fellas" (Alan 37/Roy 46). With the exception of Roy's songs, the others on this album were selected from many earlier Alan McGill recordings for greater background variety, achieved by selecting songs from different recording sessions. Since the master tapes could not be located for several of the chosen songs, they were dubbed directly from the LP records, prior to the digital remastering process. Space doesn't allow for stories about all of the songs on this album, but in addition to Roy's songs, two more were composed by Alan's friends in the Hollywood Christian Group... "See What God Can Do", by Redd Harper, and "Christian Cowboy" by Cindy Walker. We trust you'll enjoy this album and the variety it affords in message content and interesting backgrounds.
